The best plaice for top fish and chips

-

A family recipe is the secret to the success of Netherton Fisheries.

It is 20 years since owner Carl Smith acquired an empty shop unit in Ledbury Road and turned it into asuccessful and award-winning fish and chip business.

People’s food habits have altered considerably over the last two decades, with glutenfree, fat-free and sugar-free items becoming fashionable.

But one thing Carl and son Marcus know is that the UK still loves a good chippy more than anything else.

“It’s fair to say a lot has changed i n that time. Although fish and chips is still thenation’s number one meal, we do try and cater for all the family with a comprehensive menu,” they said.

“Our family has been frying fish and chips since 1972 and westill use our original secret batter recipe.”

Carl was joined in the business 15 years ago by son Marcus, who now manages the shop alongside the team of dedicated staff.

It is very much a family affair at Netherton Fisheries, and father and son stay close to their roots by sourcing produce from local Lincolnshire farmers and insisting on only the highest quality of food.

And to make sure customers with different needs and cultures are satisfied, the chippy has recently introduced a system for frying different products in separate pans and colour-coding utensils to stop any cross-contamination.

It is that attention to detail which has seen Netherton Fisheries named the Peterborough Telegraph Fish and Chip Shop of the Year five times.

Carl and Marcus have thoroughly enjoyed the last 20 years, and they are looking forward to sharing the next 20 with their loyal customers.

They added: “We would like to thank all customers for supporting us over the years, and it’s fair to say many have become friends.

“So here’s to the next 20 years!”
