McCarthy and Stone’s plans would see the development built on Hampton Avenue, Hampton, Peterborough.

The scheme involves 45 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments, landscaped communal gardens and car parking for residents, staff and visitors.

The apartments form part of a wider development scheme being brought forward by HDD Hampton Avenue Limited and O&H Properties Limited, which also includes a Greene King restaurant and Costa Coffee Drive-Thru.

Mark Wright, regional managing director at McCarthy and Stone, said: “It is important that a community meets the housing needs of all its residents.

“These Retirement Living apartments would help to meet a growing housing need, providing specialist accommodation as part of the Hampton Urban Extension which promotes active, healthy lifestyles, with care and support on hand as required.

“The development would also deliver a number of economic benefits for the area, supporting local businesses and creating new jobs both during construction and once the scheme is up and running.

“Increasing the housing choice for residents in later life also releases family-sized housing back into local markets, which helps to stimulate the housing chain and enable young families and first time buyers to have a better opportunity within the housing market.”

Mr Wright said the development would create a number of jobs in the area during construction, and when it is up and running.

All the apartments are adaptable for wheelchair use, and include a homeowners’ lounge, a refuse room, lifts, a camera entry system linked to residents’ TVs and a guest suite allowing friends and relatives to stay overnight.

Now that the application has been submitted there is a further opportunity for local residents to make comments to Peterborough City Council, by visiting www.peterborough.gov.uk quoting the reference number: 16/01148/ FUL.
