Go ahead to expand dialysis unit to help city kidney patients

Peterborou­gh City Hospital hasbeengiv­enplanning­permission to expand its dialysis unit. Earlier this year, the Trust wasawarded a newcontrac­t to work in partnershi­p with Leicester’s Hospitals to expand the outpatient haemodialy­sis capacity available in Peterborou­gh. Planning permission has now been granted and the new purpose-built unit is on track to receive its first patients in early 2017. The unit will be adjacent to Peterborou­gh City Hospi- tal with 10 additional dialysis stations, providing space for uptoanaddi­tional 60patients. Frieder Kleemann, Consultant Nephrologi­st at Peterborou­gh and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that the expansion is takingplac­e, enablingus­tooffer regular dialysis locally to all patients from the Peterborou­gh area. “Welookforw­ardto keeping our patients and the public updatedasw­emoveforwa­rd with the expansion project.”
