Go ahead to expand dialysis unit to help city kidney patients

Peterborough City Hospital hasbeengivenplanningpermission to expand its dialysis unit. Earlier this year, the Trust wasawarded a newcontract to work in partnership with Leicester’s Hospitals to expand the outpatient haemodialysis capacity available in Peterborough. Planning permission has now been granted and the new purpose-built unit is on track to receive its first patients in early 2017. The unit will be adjacent to Peterborough City Hospi- tal with 10 additional dialysis stations, providing space for uptoanadditional 60patients. Frieder Kleemann, Consultant Nephrologist at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that the expansion is takingplace, enablingustooffer regular dialysis locally to all patients from the Peterborough area. “Welookforwardto keeping our patients and the public updatedaswemoveforward with the expansion project.”
