Sense, the deafblind charity, hosted the third annual SportsDayeventatPeterborough Rugby Union Football Club on Wednesday. Over 50 people participated, all with dual sensory impairments and additional learning disabilities. They were all service users from the Sense run Hampton Resource Centre and Glenside Resource Centre in Spalding.
A wide selection of accessible sports activities took place, including boccia, football slalom, curling and archery.
Deputy Education Services Manager at Sense, Jenny Wheatcroft, said: “We’re thrilled that Peterborough Rugby Club hosted this fantastic day for the third occasion. Participation i n sport has significant physical, mental and emotional benefits, yet we know from our experience supporting people with sensory impairments, that manyencounter barriers to access the activity. Sense and the ruby club share the belief that the opportunity to participate in sport should be open to everyone.”
