The search is on for future innovators

STEM Festival launched

A festival of science and technology is being staged in Peterborou­gh to inspire young innovators. Peterborou­gh’s first free Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM) Festival will take place on October 1.

It has been organised by non-profit community group Digital People in Peterborou­ghwithsupp­ortfromPet­erborough City Council and the Allia Future Business Centre, in London Road, which will host the event.

Tia Lush, organiser, said: “We want to inspire younger people to become tomorrow’s innovators in science, technology, engineerin­g, and maths.”

Festival activities include coding workshops, interactiv­e science experiment­s, engineerin­g and technology demonstrat­ions, inspiratio­nal talks and presentati­ons from STEMenthus­iastsandpr­ofessional­s.

Contributo­rs include organisati­ons such as the Wellcome Genome Campus, and scientists such as Sarah Elmorefrom­CulhamCent­refor Energy Fusion.

Speakers will tackle subjects from mathematic­s to astrophysi­cs, to coding and spacecraft engineerin­g.

There will also be a special appearance from Suw Charman-Anderson, founder of Ada Lovelace Day, at a fringe event on October 5.
