The search is on for future innovators
STEM Festival launched
A festival of science and technology is being staged in Peterborough to inspire young innovators. Peterborough’s first free Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Festival will take place on October 1.
It has been organised by non-profit community group Digital People in PeterboroughwithsupportfromPeterborough City Council and the Allia Future Business Centre, in London Road, which will host the event.
Tia Lush, organiser, said: “We want to inspire younger people to become tomorrow’s innovators in science, technology, engineering, and maths.”
Festival activities include coding workshops, interactive science experiments, engineering and technology demonstrations, inspirational talks and presentations from STEMenthusiastsandprofessionals.
Contributors include organisations such as the Wellcome Genome Campus, and scientists such as Sarah ElmorefromCulhamCentrefor Energy Fusion.
Speakers will tackle subjects from mathematics to astrophysics, to coding and spacecraft engineering.
There will also be a special appearance from Suw Charman-Anderson, founder of Ada Lovelace Day, at a fringe event on October 5.
Tia said: “There will be an emphasis on celebrating women in STEM and encouraging girls to explore STEM subjects.
