Harriers veteran Nicky races into the UK top 20

Nene Valley Harriers veteran Nicky Morgan continued her golden summer when winning the Cambridges­hire senior ladies mile championsh­ip at St Ives. The 46 year-old Hamptonbas­ed flyer confidentl­y saw offherriva­ls, covering the distance in 5:42.6.

Morgan’s time moved her upto20thpl­aceintheal­l-time UK Over 45 mile rankings, which also feature her teammate Philippa Taylor in sixth position.

Morgan wasn’t the only Nene Valley medallist at the meeting as Josie Fortune finished second in the Under 17 mile race with a 5:37.3 clocking.

Peterborou­gh AC also pickedupgo­ldandsilve­rmedals with Stuart Haw finishing second in the senior men’s race with a 4:28.8 finish and Amittai Ben-Israel winning Under 20 gold in a time of 4:37.4.

Nene Valley’s Birmingham University student James McCrae finished third in the WelshAthle­ticsUnder2­0Mile at Cardiff last week in a rapid 4:23.96.

The 19 year-old is now on the training roster of legendary American coach Bud Baldaro - a man who has been the driving force behind Olympians, Commonweal­th medallists, World and European champions, and several UK record breakers over the years.

There was a one-two for Peterborou­gh AC at the Littleport 10k on Sunday with James Whitehead crossing the line first in 35:39 and Amittai Ben-Israel finishing second in 35:49.

Steve Hall made it three PAC finishers in the top 10 by claming nith spot in 38:19.

Lisa Marriott of Ramsey Ropad Runners was first lady home in 14th place in 40:51. Debra Wait of March AC was second lady in 46:47.
