‘I’ll still be supporting Posh’ says new Cobbler Zakuani

-

Gaby Zakuani admits it will be strange coming back to play at the ABAX Stadium in a Northampton shirt. But the 30 year-old central defender will becompletely professional as he tries to upset the team he graced for 253 appearances spread over seven years.

Zakuani was joined at Sixfields in the summer by another unwanted Posh man in midfielder HarryBeautyman.

“Harry has followed me everywhere,” Zakuani joked. “He was at Orient and Posh and now Northampton.

“Neither of us wanted to leave Posh. It wasn’t our choice, butIknowIwillstill be supporting them apart from in twomatchesagainstNorthampton.

“I’m still going to live in Peterborough and my son Ajae will still be playing for the Posh youth team so I will still bearoundtheclub, butNorthampton is my focus now and I’mlookingforwardtothenew season.

“It will feel strange coming backtoplayagainstPoshatthe ABAX, butIwill beprofessional and I hope I get a decent reception.

“To be fair the messages from Posh fans since I left have been far more positive than negativewhich is how it shouldbeasthegoodtimesfar outweighed the bad.”

Cobblers are at the ABAX Stadium on Tuesday, October 18 with the return at Sixfields scheduled for Saturday, November 19.

Zakuani and Beautyman join aconsiderable list of players to have played for both Posh and Northampton (see below).
