Nene Val­ley young­sters cruise into the play-offs

Nene Val­ley Har­ri­ers se­cured their place in the pres­ti­gious end-of-sea­son East­ern Young Ath­letes League play-off fi­nal with a solid per­for­mance at Nor­wich on Sun­day (writes Barry Warne).

Har­ri­ers fin­ishedthird­out of eight teams on the day, and were­fourthover­allinthe­fi­nal stand­ings of a league which com­prises 28 clubs.

Team­man­agerRussProsser is sure to have some think­ing to do be­fore the fi­nals at Steve­nage on Septem­ber 4 af­ter a meet­ing in which­sev­eral young­sters made the most of their op­por­tu­nity to im­press as a num­ber of key squad mem­bers were un­avail­able on the day.

Nene Val­ley were at their best in the boys Un­der 15 and Un­der 17 age groups com­fort­ably win­ning both.

Wil­liam Hughes and Ron­nieRawl­ingswere­to­tal­ly­dom­i­nant in the sprints at Un­der 17 level with Hughes win­ning both the 100m and 200m. Rawl­ingswho­took­theBstring hon­ours over both dis­tances.

Charles Hughes won both theshotand­javelin, with­Den­zil Mposu first in the B string javelin.

Kie­len Spur­den­shadafine run, win­ning the B 1500m.

The Un­der 15 boys put in a fine team per­for­mance with many ath­letes scor­ing well.

Harry Smith won the shot, Billy Fitz­patrick crossed the line firstinthe800­mandLuke Phillips won the B high jump.

Wil­liam Kong had a great day for the Un­der 13 boys on his club de­but. No­tonly did he win the B 100m and 200m but his times of 12.9 and 26.7 sec­onds were quicker than any A string run­ners.

Fred­die Fraser was first A run­ner in the 100m, and had a day to re­mem­ber when also win­ning the 75m hur­dles and long jump.

Ge­orge Har­ri­son won the B shot and Sam Oak­ley and Kai Chil­vers made it a dou­ble Nene Val­ley vic­tory over 1500m.

Alicja Gawron­ski won the Un­der 13 200m in 29.1 while Danielle Pusey threw her way to vic­tory in the javelin.

Ella Robin­son pulled off a fine Un­der 15 B 300m and 800mdou­ble, andAm­berPark won the A 800m.

Nene Val­ley thrived in the Un­der 17 throws with Ly­dia Church first in the shot and ham­mer and Alex Stub­ley in the B string dis­cus.
