Raising of the flag

The Merchant Navy’s official flag will be flown at Fenland Hall in March a week on Friday to mark Merchant Navy Day. Fenland District Council chairman Cllr Carol Cox will be hosting a ceremony. It was on September 2, 1939 that the SS Athenia was the first merchant ship to be torpedoed and sunk, with the loss of 128 lives.
