Stamford-based star Aaron Scott stormed to victory in the Barney 5k held at Ferry Meadows (writes Barry Warne).

The race, held in memory of former Nene Valley favourite Mike Barnsdale, has a reputation for producing fast times which meansthat a strong field usually gathers for the event.

This year’s race was no exception, though Scott was too good for his rivals racing away from the gun and winning in a speedy time of 15:13.

Scott, now running in the colours of Lincoln Wellington AC, finished 200 metres ahead of runner-up Steve Robinson of Peterborough AC, who clocked 15:50.

It was a closer run thing for the minor placings with Yaxley’ s James Mog ridge taking third place in 16:05.

The Peterborough AC quartet of John Pike, Shaun Walton, James Whitehead and Amittai Ben-Israel were not far behind in fourth to seventh positions.

The ladies race was dom- inated by Higham Harrier Rachel Doherty with a finishing time of 17:14.

The consistent Philippa Taylor of Nene Valley finished as runner-up in 18:24 with March AC’s Melissa Neal a minute further back in third.

Nene Valley teenagers Josie Fortune and Ellie Piccaver both ran well, with top ten finishes.
