Mees just misses out on Inter-Counties title

A talented group of youngsters from Nene Valley Harriers and Peterborou­gh AC did Cambridges­hire proud in the South of England Inter- Counties Championsh­ip in Oxford on Sunday( writes Barry Warne).

Daniel Me es of Peterborou­gh AC was the star of the day when taking the runners-up spot in the Under 201500 min a competitiv­e 4:09.70. Me es and the eventu al winner Stephen Ferro ni of Sussex werewell ahead of the field, but Ferroni came out on top by less than half a second.

Isaac Huskisson was the pick of the Nene Valley bunch finishing fourth in the Under 20 hammer, while 17 year-old clubmate Oliver Bowling finished eighth in a close fought 800m.

For the Under 15s, Peterborou­gh’s Samantha Muchina qualified well for the 100m and 200m finals, in which she completed well in strong fields.

Amber Park just missed out on the 1500m final when finishing fifth in her heat while Georgie Ives Lappin was fifth in her 75m hurdles heat.

The best local performer for the Under 15 girls was Elysia Constanzo with fifth place in the pole vault.

Peterborou­gh AC allrounder Harriet Fenton had a good weekend finishing 13 th out of 39 competitor­s in the England Athletics Under 15 Combined Events Championsh­ip.
