Gormley goes and Ben should follow
MisfitstrikerJoeGormleyhas left Posh for a spell in Scottish football with Premier League side St Johnstone.
The25-year-old hasmoved northoftheborderonloanuntil January.
Gormley enjoyed a formidable reputation in Irish football withCliftonville before he joined Posh in June 2015.
But his Posh career has been blighted by aloss of formand fitness. Gormley failed to score in just seven Posh appearances before suffering a knee ligament injury which kept him on the sidelines for seven months.
But St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright believes he can re-kindle Gormley’s scoring prowess.
Wright said: “I’ve followed Joe’s career since his days in Irish football and I wanted to sign him when he chose to move to Peterborough.
“Things haven’t gone well for him down there, but he is fully fit again now and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“At his best he is a very natural goalscorer.”
Posh were also expecting goalkeeper Ben Alnwick to move to League One rivals Bolton on a free transfer last night.
Alnwickrequested a transfer from Posh for personal reasons just six weeks after signing a new three-year contract at the ABAX Stadium and Posh moved quickly to get him off the wage bill. The Peterborough Telegraph understands no fee was involved for a 29 year-old who made 97 appearances for Posh following his arrival in July, 2014.
Alnwick’s form had been patchy this season and he had recently lost his starting place to 39 year-old goalkeeping coach Mark Tyler.
Posh signed Spurs goalkeeperLukeMcGeetoreplace Alnwick.
The 20 year-old has been third-choice goalkeeper at the Premier League club for the last two seasons, but has yet to make a senior competitive appearance.
