New school building on track for opening

The newest primary school building in the city is on target to openlater this autumn.

Work on the new West Town Primary School building, on the old Peterborou­gh District Hospital site, is set to be completed in time for the Octoberhal­fterm. It will open on October 31.

It will provide places for 630 pupils - double the number at the existing site - and the school will increase the admission numberforr­eception children from 45 to 90 from September 2017.

The £6 million Education Funding Agency project is part of the Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme that addresses the needs of schools mostinneed of repair.

Thebuildin­g worksarebe­ing carried out by Kier Constructi­on.

The council has also contribute­d an additional £2million towardsass­ociatedwor­ks including the retention and restoratio­n of the Memorial Hospital and highway improvemen­ts.
