New school build­ing on track for open­ing

The new­est pri­mary school build­ing in the city is on tar­get to open­later this au­tumn.

Work on the new West Town Pri­mary School build­ing, on the old Peter­bor­ough Dis­trict Hos­pi­tal site, is set to be com­pleted in time for the Oc­to­ber­halfterm. It will open on Oc­to­ber 31.

It will pro­vide places for 630 pupils - dou­ble the num­ber at the ex­ist­ing site - and the school will in­crease the ad­mis­sion num­ber­for­recep­tion chil­dren from 45 to 90 from Septem­ber 2017.

The £6 mil­lion Ed­u­ca­tion Fund­ing Agency project is part of the Govern­ment’s Pri­or­ity Schools Build­ing Pro­gramme that ad­dresses the needs of schools mostin­need of re­pair.

The­build­ing work­sare­be­ing car­ried out by Kier Con­struc­tion.

The coun­cil has also con­trib­uted an ad­di­tional £2mil­lion to­ward­sas­so­ci­at­ed­works in­clud­ing the re­ten­tion and restora­tion of the Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal and high­way im­prove­ments.
