At least seven youths in­volved in at­tack

A man was se­ri­ously in­jured af­ter be­ing at­tacked by a gang of youths in a quiet Peter­bor­ough street. The at­tack hap­pened in Ju­bilee Street, Wood­ston, Peter­bor­ough, at about 9.10pm on Mon­day night.

Po­lice were called to the street af­ter re­ports youths were dam­ag­ing parked cars.

The youths were chal­lenged by two men, one in his 60s, who was se­ri­ously as­saulted and one in his 40s who was also as­saulted and suf­fered mi­nor in­juries.

A po­lice spokesman said it is thought a weapon was used in the as­sault, but de­tec­tives were ‘keep­ing an open mind’ about what hap­pened.

The older man suf­fered se­ri­ous but not life threat­en­ing in­juries and is still re­ceiv­ing care at Peter­bor­ough City Hos­pi­tal.

A spokesman for the East of Eng­land Am­bu­lance Ser­vice said: “We were called at 9.22pm to an in­ci­dent in Ju­bilee Street. An am­bu­lance crew was on the scene in five min­utes.

“One­man, be­lieved to bein his 60s, was treated for head in­juries. He was con­scious and breath­ing. He was taken to hos­pi­tal for fur­ther treat­ment.”

The­p­o­lice­spokesman­said it was thought there were at least seven youths in the gang.

The main at­tacker is de­scribed as white, heavy build, wear­ing shorts and a red hooded top.

Of­fi­cer­sarenowap­peal­ing for any­one who saw a gang of youths in the area around the time of the at­tack to come for­ward.

The Cam­bridgeshire po­lice spokesman said: “This is a se­ri­ous as­sault and we are keen to catch those re­spon­si­ble as soon as pos­si­ble.

“We would ap­peal to any­one who was in the area at the time to con­sider if they saw this group of youths be­fore or af­ter the as­sault. Any in­for­ma­tion, no mat­ter how in­signif­i­cant it may seem, could be valu­able to this in­quiry.”
