At least seven youths involved in attack
A man was seriously injured after being attacked by a gang of youths in a quiet Peterborough street. The attack happened in Jubilee Street, Woodston, Peterborough, at about 9.10pm on Monday night.
Police were called to the street after reports youths were damaging parked cars.
The youths were challenged by two men, one in his 60s, who was seriously assaulted and one in his 40s who was also assaulted and suffered minor injuries.
A police spokesman said it is thought a weapon was used in the assault, but detectives were ‘keeping an open mind’ about what happened.
The older man suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and is still receiving care at Peterborough City Hospital.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.22pm to an incident in Jubilee Street. An ambulance crew was on the scene in five minutes.
“Oneman, believed to bein his 60s, was treated for head injuries. He was conscious and breathing. He was taken to hospital for further treatment.”
Thepolicespokesmansaid it was thought there were at least seven youths in the gang.
The main attacker is described as white, heavy build, wearing shorts and a red hooded top.
Officersarenowappealing for anyone who saw a gang of youths in the area around the time of the attack to come forward.
The Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: “This is a serious assault and we are keen to catch those responsible as soon as possible.
“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to consider if they saw this group of youths before or after the assault. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be valuable to this inquiry.”
