Thou­sands en­joy pop-up shop

Thou­sands of peo­ple vis­ited a pop-up lit­er­acy shop this sum­mer which aimed to boost lit­er­acy lev­els in the city. The space in Bridge Street was the re­sult of a part­ner­ship be­tween the Na­tional Lit­er­acy Trust Hub in Peter­bor­ough, City Col­lege Peter­bor­ough, Peter­bor­ough City Coun­cil and other lo­cal or­gan­i­sa­tions. More than 2,840 chil­dren, par­ents and car­ers got in­volved with over 5,000 books handed over to fam­i­lies after they im­mersed them­selves in sto­ry­telling and arts and crafts. Mother of four Robina Rashad, pic­tured with Ibrahim (six), Sub­han (nine), Hadiya (12) and Hafsa (11), said: “We have re­ally en­joyed vis­it­ing this fun space every week which has al­lowed us to spend qual­ity time to­gether shar­ing sto­ries and tak­ing part in the great se­lec­tion of ac­tiv­i­ties.”
