The next step for would-be stage stars

-

Anew preparation course for youngsters looking to forge a performing arts career launches in Peterborough next month.

Brothers James and Jason Winter left Peterborough over 10 years ago to follow their dream of performing in a West End theatre. Both have been very fortunate and have seen their dream come true, and now they would like to help other local young people achieve the same goal.

“Having spoken to many young people it is very evident that through no real fault of their own, many schools and careers advi- sors find it very difficult to give advice to students wanting a future in performing arts,” said James.

“It is a minefield when it comes to choosing which vocational college or school is right for you.....and that’s where this course fits in.

“It is a chance to train with, talk to and take advice from people that have been in that same situation and are now working in the industry”.

There are three pathways: musical theatre audition technique; acting audition technique; audition for dance.

The whole course is designed to equip the student with the necessary information, skills and confidence to embark upon auditions for professional vocational colleges.

Over the course students will receive expert preparation in audition technique, solo songs and acting monologues alongside classes in ballet, jazz and contemporary.

Jason, co-founder of Take2thestage, said: “If you are serious and determined to pursue a career in the performing arts industry and want an insight into drama school audition days this is the course for you.

“Our aim is to offer experience through mock auditions, intensive technical workshops and how to prepare for auditions. Guidance will be given on your audition material, how to present yourself and any areas you may need to develop further in order to give you the best possible chance of success.”

Classes will be taken at Tu Danse Studios in Newark Road, Peterborough, on Sundays, from 10.30am- 4.30pm, and will be taught by professionals working in the performing arts industry, including James and Jason.

The 12-week course will take place on October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; November 6, 13, 20 and 27; and December 4, 11 and 18.

The course is open to students from the age of 14-21, and costs £60 per week payable either in full on October 2 or in three instalments of £240 due on October 2 and 30, and November 27.

There are just 30 available places so for further information or to request an application form email anita@tudanse. co.uk.
