Rio Olympic gold medallist Hannah Macleod was the guest speaker at the latest Peterborough SportsAid Foundation lunch at the Holiday Inn West Hotel at Thorpe Wood.

Macleod was a member of the Team GB women’s hockey team that struck gold last month in Brazil and she gave a motivational speech detailing the intense preparation and mental approach of the squad as they took charge of the tournament.

Mac leod made her inter na- tional debut in 2003 and was a member of the Great Britain team that won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Both of her Olympic medals were on display during the lunch.

Iain Crighton, chairman of the Peterborough SportsAid Foundation, said: “I was particularly impressed by the commitment of Hannah to her chosen sport and the way she endeared herself to an enthusiastic audience.

“Winning a gold medal at the Rio Olympics must have been a truly moving experience.”

The latest recipient of a Sports Aid grant was kick- boxing talent Jaden Harris, who is a British and European champion and won five gold medals at the World Championships in Portugal last November. She returns next month to defend those titles.

Thelatest SportsAid lunch was supported by D al rod Limited, the specialist drainage company based in Peterborough.
