Get ready for Black History Month

Black History Month celebratio­ns in Peterborou­gh begin at the weekend.

The first event takes place in Cathedral Square on Saturday between 11am and 6pm. Therewill belive music, poetry readings, African clothing, food stalls and arts and crafts.

The theme for 2016 is ‘Africa, Mother of Mankind’ with a celebratio­n of heritage and culture.

The other events are: Saturday, October 8 at the Millennium Centre, Dickens Street, 2pm until late. There will be games of dominoes, storytelli­ng, traditiona­l AfroCaribb­ean food, music and stalls.

• Saturday, October 22 at the Dominion Christian Connection­s, Park Road, 2pm to 6pm. There will be a fashion show from upcoming designer Seraphic Couture, music and food from different parts of Africa.

• Wednesday, November 9 at the Cavell Centre, Peterborou­gh City Hospital, 1pm to 3pm. The event will include a fashion show, poetry and food stalls.

Bernadetta Omondi, from the Black History Month Committee, said: “We believe in community cohesion, integratio­n and tolerance. Our theme this year will highlight that we are all ‘one’ regardless of our difference­s.”
