TriButes to former PT news eDitor Rose
Journalist and charity worker was popular figure in city
Tributes have been paid to former Peterborough Telegraph News Editor Rose Taylor who died this week. Rose, 62, died at Thorpe Hall Hospice on Monday (October 3) after a short battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends including her son Chris.
Rose was known throughout the city after joining the then Peterborough Evening Telegraph in 2005 and fast buildingareputationasacommittedjournalistwhowasalso agreat supporteroflocal communitygroupsandcharitable causes.

“She was absolutely passionate about the paper, local journalism and, in particular, supporting campaigns and good causes.
“She was so well known in many communities and organisationsacrossthecityand would frequently give many hours of her own time to support events. Shewaslikedand respectedinequalmeasureby many. many people.
“Hergreatstrengthwasdeveloping young reporters and there are many careers that got of to a great start thanks to her support and advice.”
Rose was born in Mumbai and came to the UK in 1972. Her first job in journalism was on the Saffron Walden Reporter and from there she went on to hold senior roles in Royston, on the Cambridge NewsandtheGloucesterEcho before she came to Peterborough in 2005.
After a successful stint as news editor she took up a content management role on the Aberdeen Press and Journal before returning to Peterborough. She edited the Cambridge First weekly newspaper before becoming acommunicationesexecutive at Bedford University and latterly taking on a role at the Leprosy Mision based in OrtonGoldhay. Rosealsoworked at the StamfordMercury, Rut- land TimesandBourneLocal.
North West Cambs MP Shailesh Vara said: “It’s a great loss for all of us. Rose was a good soul in every sense of the wordandafinejournalist who was passionate about Peterborough.”
Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson said: “I was very sad to learn of death of Rose.
“She was warm, kind, an old school professional journalist.”
A funeral service will be held at St Peter & All Souls Church, GenevaStreet, Peterborough on Thursday, October 13 at 10.30am, followed by a reception in the parish hall.
Donationsinlieuofflowers shouldbemadetotheLeprosy Mission of EnglandandWales via its website: http://www. leprosymission.org.uk/ A dozen extra beds are being created at Peterborough City Hospital to help cope with the expected winter demand.
The beds will be spread across four wards in Core A of the hospital, taking the numberofbedsfrom29to32 in each area.
Joanne Bennis, Chief Nurse said: “These extra beds are needed because we know that our hospital currently has to work over t he recommended occupancy.
“This creates a higher turnover per patient bed and can potentially put a strain on both staff and the systems we operate. In order to ensure we continue to worksafely, provideexcellent quality care and create the most comfortable and positive patient experience possible, this work must be carried out.”
The work which will hopefully cause minimum disruption will be complete within two months. It will involve converting two single roomsintothree-bedded bays with an ensuite. Posters and messaging has been put up around the hospital and in the wards affected. All the new bays will be deep cleaned before bringing the beds into operation.
The news comes as the trusts running Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals have each agreed aresolutiontomergethetwo organisations. Theboardsof bothhospitaltrusts metseparately this week to discuss a Full Business Case that sets out in detail the case for merging all clinical and administration functions from April 2017.
Aseriesofpubliceventsto discusstheproposedmerger are taking place this month. They will be held at Stamford Hospital Meeting Hall today (Thursday October 6) at 5.45pm; at the Deepings Community Centre, Market Deeping, on Monday October 10 at 7pm; At PeterboroughCityHospital, Learning Centre, on Tuesday October 11 at 5.45pm; At St Ives Corn ExchangeonThursdayOctober 13 at 2pm and at Bourne CornExchangeonThursday 20 October at 4.30pm.
