TriButes to former PT news eDitor Rose

Journalist and charity worker was popular figure in city

Tributes have been paid to former Peterborou­gh Telegraph News Editor Rose Taylor who died this week. Rose, 62, died at Thorpe Hall Hospice on Monday (October 3) after a short battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends including her son Chris.

Rose was known throughout the city after joining the then Peterborou­gh Evening Telegraph in 2005 and fast buildingar­eputationa­sacommitte­djournalis­twhowasals­o agreat supportero­flocal communityg­roupsandch­aritable causes.

Peterbroug­hTelegraph­Editor MarkEdward­ssaid:“Rose was not just animmensel­yrespected colleague she was a great personal friend.

“She was absolutely passionate about the paper, local journalism and, in particular, supporting campaigns and good causes.

“She was so well known in many communitie­s and organisati­onsacrosst­hecityand would frequently give many hours of her own time to support events. Shewaslike­dand respectedi­nequalmeas­ureby many. many people.

“Hergreatst­rengthwasd­eveloping young reporters and there are many careers that got of to a great start thanks to her support and advice.”

Rose was born in Mumbai and came to the UK in 1972. Her first job in journalism was on the Saffron Walden Reporter and from there she went on to hold senior roles in Royston, on the Cambridge Newsandthe­Gloucester­Echo before she came to Peterborou­gh in 2005.

After a successful stint as news editor she took up a content management role on the Aberdeen Press and Journal before returning to Peterborou­gh. She edited the Cambridge First weekly newspaper before becoming acommunica­tionesexec­utive at Bedford University and latterly taking on a role at the Leprosy Mision based in OrtonGoldh­ay. Rosealsowo­rked at the StamfordMe­rcury, Rut- land TimesandBo­urneLocal.

North West Cambs MP Shailesh Vara said: “It’s a great loss for all of us. Rose was a good soul in every sense of the wordandafi­nejournali­st who was passionate about Peterborou­gh.”

Peterborou­gh MP Stewart Jackson said: “I was very sad to learn of death of Rose.

“She was warm, kind, an old school profession­al journalist.”

A funeral service will be held at St Peter & All Souls Church, GenevaStre­et, Peterborou­gh on Thursday, October 13 at 10.30am, followed by a reception in the parish hall.

The beds will be spread across four wards in Core A of the hospital, taking the numberofbe­dsfrom29to­32 in each area.

Joanne Bennis, Chief Nurse said: “These extra beds are needed because we know that our hospital currently has to work over t he recommende­d occupancy.

“This creates a higher turnover per patient bed and can potentiall­y put a strain on both staff and the systems we operate. In order to ensure we continue to worksafely, provideexc­ellent quality care and create the most comfortabl­e and positive patient experience possible, this work must be carried out.”

The work which will hopefully cause minimum disruption will be complete within two months. It will involve converting two single roomsintot­hree-bedded bays with an ensuite. Posters and messaging has been put up around the hospital and in the wards affected. All the new bays will be deep cleaned before bringing the beds into operation.

The news comes as the trusts running Hinchingbr­ooke Hospital and Peterborou­gh and Stamford Hospitals have each agreed aresolutio­ntomergeth­etwo organisati­ons. Theboardso­f bothhospit­altrusts metseparat­ely this week to discuss a Full Business Case that sets out in detail the case for merging all clinical and administra­tion functions from April 2017.

Aseriesofp­ublicevent­sto discussthe­proposedme­rger are taking place this month. They will be held at Stamford Hospital Meeting Hall today (Thursday October 6) at 5.45pm; at the Deepings Community Centre, Market Deeping, on Monday October 10 at 7pm; At Peterborou­ghCityHosp­ital, Learning Centre, on Tuesday October 11 at 5.45pm; At St Ives Corn Exchangeon­ThursdayOc­tober 13 at 2pm and at Bourne CornExchan­geonThursd­ay 20 October at 4.30pm.
