Man jailed for ‘frenzied’ knife attack in city
Police have said Peterborough streets are safer after a drug dealer who carried out a terrifying and frenzied machete attack was jailed for 12 years after a trial. Nathan Nicholson launched the attack after a f riend pouredacupofwateroverhim at a Woodston flat.
His victim was left with a fractured skull, along with a series of otherseriousinjuries - including cutting off one of the man’s fingers.
Thevictim is still suffering fromtheeffectsofthewounds he suffered nearly six months after the brutal attack.
When Nicholson was arrested he wasin possession of alargeamountofclassAdrugs - including both cocaine and heroin.
Police have now described Nicholson as a ‘nasty man’ who travelled from his London home to Peterborough to deal drugs.
Nicholson, 21, of East Dulwich Estate, Southwark, London was handed the sentence at Huntingdon Crown Court after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
The court heard how Nicholson had travelled from hisLondonhomeonMay3this year to visit a group of friends at a flat in Palmerston Road, Woodston, Peterborough.
Atabout9.30pm, oneofthe men at the property poured a cup of water over Nicholson which led to a struggle between the pair.
Nicholson threw the man into a glass cabinet before stabbing him several times with a machete.
Nicholson fractured the victim’s skull, cut off one of his fingers and partially severed others and left him with severe cuts to his leg.
He was later arrested in London and found to be in possession of a total of more than 200 wraps of class A drugs - 113 wraps of cocaine and 103 wraps of heroin.
Nicholson was sentenced to 12 years for grievous bodily harm with intent and five years for the drugs offences. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Speaking after the court hearing, which took place lastweek, DetectiveConstable Paul Twell, from Cambridgeshire police, said streets in both Peterborough and London would be safer now Nicholson had been brought to justice.
DC Twell said: “Nicholson is a particularly nasty man who would travel to the city to deal drugs.
“During this visit hegot into a scuffle with another man and launched a frenzied attack with a machete.
“As a result the victim suffered life changing injuries which have affected his mobility.
“ThestreetsofLondonand Peterborough are now safer with Nicholson in prison.”
