Hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of drugs have been seized after a major raid at a Peterborough home - by officers investigating slavery in the city. A man has been charged in connection with the discovery, which saw cannabis worth more than £400,000 uncovered. Officers from the newly formed Prevention and En- forcement Services (PES) were taking part in a day of action with multiple agencies to target modern day slavery in the city when at about 1pm they came across a cannabis factory at a property in Eastern Avenue, Dogsthorpe. Photos showed the plants being grown in rooms using high powered lights. A police spokesman said the property had more than 500 plants inside, valued in excess of £400,000. Marku Gjevalin, 28, from Oakham was arrested at the scene and later changed with producing a Class B drug. He appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday). A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said the plants were seized and will now be destroyed.
