Speeding COPS take pride of place in the Fens once again

City of Peterborou­gh Swimming Club (COPS) continue to rule the roost on the local swimming scene. At the weekend they retained both their Junior Fenland League titles when adding the League Cup to the League One title.

The COPS A team beat hosts Wisbech by 32 points in the cup final after winning 18 of the 45 events and finishing second in 10 others. Assistant coach Debbie Standish-Leigh said: “We are extremely pleased to retain the Fenland League title and the Fenland Cup in such emphatic style.

“We set ourselves high standards and despite so m a ny s w i m m e r s g o i n g throughthe­cut-offtimesea­ch year the youngest swimmers raise their game.”

The Fenland League features the best junior teams within a 50-mile radius of Wisbech.

Eacheventi­s subject to upper time limits which rules out many COPS swimmers as the competitio­n progresses while several swimmers have to competeaga­instswimme­rs that are older than them.

Despite these limitation­s andhavingo­nly123swim­mers in their competitiv­e swimming squads, COPS manage to field two teams in the Fenland League.
