Today’s pictures are a fascinating, if random, look at Peterborough’s heritage. Horrell’s Dairies was one of those firms that Peterborians of a certain age will all look back on with a nostalgic affection. This fantastic picture taken in 1954 shows a row of milkmen and their horse drawn floats. I wonder why the picture was taken– the launch of a new fleet of floats perhaps? Can anyone recall when horse-drawn floats were taken out of service in the city?

The Great Eastern Run is once more well established as a key date on the city’s sports calendar.

The picture of the athletes is captioned First “Round The City Race’ ’March 26, 1951.

Was the starting line in Market Place/ Cathedral Square? How long was the race and how many years was the event held?

The picture top left was taken in 1929 and shows the proclamation of the annual Bridge Fair. I wonder if they had a sausage supper back then?

The picture below it shows famous entertainer Tommy T rind er de lighting a Peterborough crowd in as how in 1963.

I know the Broadway Kin- ema was converted into a Top Rank Bingo Club and was opened on October 31, 1963 by the comedian.

Is this picture from that event?

Work is currently underway revamping Lower Bridge Street. The picture above was taken in March 1989 when the last revamp took place. the Rivergate Centre had not yet been built.

Cowgate has previously undergone a similar revamp and this is a reminder of how it looked before.

Does anyone remember the old stores including Armstrongs which is now the site of The Draper’s Arms?

Please get in touch with your memories.
