Last week a jury cleared Palmer(26) ofmurderbutconvicted him of manslaughter. He was jailed on Thursday.

The case was the first ever murder trial to be held at Peterborough Crown Court.

Palmer, who was serving a sentence for GBH at the time, hit Ojuederie with a TV in the early hours of the morning. Ojuederie suffered horrific injuries in the assault.

Palmer admitted carrying out the attack, but said he had beenaffectedbythesynthetic drug spice, which Ojuederie had been smoking.

Speaking after the sentence, Ojuederie’s family said: “Terry was kind, caring and loving. He was very sociable andalwaystriedtoseethebest in people. He never wanted to hurt anyone and always tried to helppeoplewherehecould. We miss him so much and think about him constantly.

“The realisation of how his life wasendedtortures us daily and will never leave us.

“Given that hewastheonly person with Terry in the cell, Palmer had no choice but to admit to ferociously killing him.

“Despite that we have had to endure a long trial with what seemed at times a real possibility that he could walk free, an outcome that would have left us feeling angry and confused.”

They also thanked detectives for helping bringing the killer to justice.

An HMP Peterborough spokesperson said an investigation was still going on into the circumstances of the killing.

Hesaid:“Deathsincustody areatragedyandourthoughts are with the family.

“We will support the Prisons and Probation Ombudsmanintheirinvestigationinto the incident.
