The Peterborough Evening Telegraph
What do our councillors do?
I am writing to ask if anyone knows what our councillors do for us that it amounts to a 27 per cent pay rise? We have never seen our councillors in the three years we have lived on Keys Park.
I attended the meeting at the community centre in Parnwell regarding the 74 families in St Michael’s Gate who are being kicked out and madehomelessfor another74 homeless families to move in. Youcouldnotmakethisup. I listened to the councillors telling people not to worry, but words are nothing and these people are being made homeless.
What has our MP done for these people I ask? Councillors have no powers and can’t stop this so how on earth can they take a 27 per cent rise when74peoplearebeenmade homeless?
I have read in last week’s Peterborough Telegraph that a lot of councillors are against this rise but will still betaking it. There are some good councillors on the city council but what do they think the people in this city will think of them now, when people are been made homeless and they are taking a 27 per cent rise?
This is not morally right and any of these councillors with a heart knows this.
I felt I had to write as I feel sostronglyonthisissueasthis has got to me in a big way.
There are also children involved and I have also signed thepetition. I askthequestion once again, what do councillors do for us? Judging by the people in St Michael’s Gate, not a lot.
If I wasacouncillor I would be giving my 27 per cent pay rise to these people who deserve it more than they do. I won’t hold my breath. Frank Langan Keys Park Parnwell Peterborough
