Rotarians love to improve lives

-

Crocus Cafe (Peterborough’s Rotary Memory Cafe) hoped members could celebrate Halloween by decorating cupcakes. Unfortunately the lady providing the materials and organising the artistic side of the event took ill days before. Not to be thwarted we still decorated the tables with orange and black balloons and heard Halloween poems followed by a lively game of musical bingo. The prizes were chocolate oranges (nearest thing to pumpkins!)

Christmas is coming - shelves in our shops overflow with colourful, sparkly items tempting us to buy and brighten our homes over the festive season.

At our latest meeting, members of Crocus Cafe created beautiful decorations to grace the centre of their tables on the big day. Dobbies kindly provided all the materials and community manager Sam came along to help. Su, who can be seen in action at Dobbies Ladies Night on December 1st, used her artistic talents to show members how to create their masterpieces. She had prepared giant crackers replacing the content with oasis just waiting to receive sprigs of holly, pine cones, berried twigs and, the crowning glory, a beautiful purple Christmas rose. Once these had all been successfully arranged Su used her glue gun to good effect and a fluffy robin redbreast was added to complete the display. Time to enjoy a second cuppa with homemade sausage rolls, apple tartlets and a selection of cakes before Su showed us how to create a Xmas wreath with lace, lights and other delights. Everyone was keen to have a go at home. Many thanks to Su for giving up her time, Dobbies for their generosity and of course the Salvation Army who kindly allow us to use their facilities each month.

Members of our Crocus Cafe now look forward to our afternoon tea courtesy of staff and students at Nene Park Academy, our December meeting when children from Fulbridge Primary School come to sing Christmas songs for us and our Christmas lunch at the Salvation Army.

A wonderful example of Rotary working together with other organisations to help those living with dementia in our local community.
