A company director in Ramsey has been helping to build homes and schools in deprived areas of Africa. SeanDennis, of SuperiorSurfaces, in Highlode Industrial Estate, Stocking Fen Road, has been supporting a charity called Mellon Educate for the last nine years.

The charity organises a regular “building blitz” in whichvolunteersfromacross theworldhelpreplaceshacks with permanent homes and build new schools.

Mr Dennis said: “I first went to South Africa in 2007.

“I started working with the charity because in 2006 my best friend committed suicide, andit wassomething he was going to do, so I went in memory of him, and I’ve stayed active with the charity.”

This year, Sean will be joinedbytwoofhisemployees plus four local recruits from Warboys. Each person has to raise £3,000 before going and they have been working hard to ensure the quota is met.

Mr Dennis said: “We attended a charity night held and the Peterborough Greyhounds to support the mission.” Making child arrangements can be difficult, but the most important thing to remember is that any contact between the child and the absent parent should be for the benefit of the child.

Conflict between parents canbeemotionallyharmfulto the child so it is important to tryandresolvemattersasamicably as possible and come to an agreement, rather than a prolongeddispute. If however matterscannotberesolvedbetween the parties andcontact is nottakingplace, thenassistance through a solicitor may be necessary and an Application for aChildArrangements Ordercanbemade. AstheApplicant, the person applying for contact, it is compulsory toattendaMediationInformation andAssessment Meeting (“MIAM”) before making the Application. If you have instructed a solicitor, this can be organised through them. Both parents are expected to attend the MIAM. The meeting itself will becarried out by an authorised family mediator who will aim to assist both parents in finding a suitable arrangement. There are circumstances in which a MIAM will not be suitable, for example, in cases of domestic violence or where an urgent Application is necessary.
