Driver in critical condition after cardiac arrest at the wheel
Two pedestrians suffered head injuries after collisions with cars in Peterborough city centre within a few minutes of each other. The incidents happened at lunch time on Friday, with incidents taking place onBourgesBoulevardandonRivergate.
Both accidents happened within 15 minutes of each other, and there were long delays for motorists while emergency services worked at both locations.
The first incident happened at 1.06pm at Rivergate, when a woman was hit by a car.
The East of England Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene, and treated a woman for head injuries.
ShewastakentoPeterboroughCity Hospital for further treatment, but her injuries were not described as being serious or life threatening.
The second incident happened at 1.20pm at the Bridge Street crossing with Bourges Boulevard.
A man was hit by a car at the crossing. A rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer and ambulance crew attended to a man with a head injury.
Another driver had to be taken to hospital after suffering a ‘medical episode’ at the wheel near Stanground, also on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 2.20pm on the A606 near the junction of the B1095 Milk and Water Drove.
A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said the collision was thought to have been caused when one driver suffereda‘medicalepisode’atthe wheel at about 2.20pm.
The air ambulance and land ambulances were called to work at the scene.
An East of England AmbulanceServicespokesmansaid: “An ambulance crew, ambulance officerandEastAnglian Air Ambulance attended.
“They treated a man, believed to beinhis70s, whohad gone into cardiac arrest.
“HewastakentoPeterboroughCityHospital in acritical condition.”
A police spokesman said no-one else suffered serious injuries in the incident.
The road was closed for almost three hours, before reopening just after 5pm. A diversion was put in place, taking motorists a route via Farcet.
