A time to dance
First, a short history lesson – Marc Cerrone is a 64-year-old French drummer, composer, producer and performer who has sold a staggering 30 million records worldwide.
Eight million of those were for Supernature alone – one of the biggest disco singles ever.
He is rightly revered as one of dance music’s major artists and influences and has worked with many top artists from across the popular music spectrum.
That theme is repeated on his new album – and his first for seven years – Red Lips which includes contributions from fellow disco pioneer Nile Rodgers of Chic fame, Brit dance popper Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip and USsoul singer Aloe Blacc.
Cerrone commented: “This album means a lot to me. For the past eight years I played a lot of live music but didn’t record any original album.
“It is reallyspecial to me because just as I did in my early career with Love In C Minor, Supernature or Golden Touch it has been entirely recorded in live conditions.’’
Highlights include opening track Therapy which features a bassline reminiscent of legends Earth, Wind and Fire.First single Move Me features vocals fromBrendan Reilly who sang on Disclosure’s Movin gMountains.
Aloe Blacc’s contribution comes on C’est Bon which he co-write with Cerrone, while Nile Rodgers trademark guitar playing can be heard on Illuminate Me.
There’s no Supernature here, but feet will not stay still. To be in with a chance of winning this album, answer this question: The Beastie Boys have sampled Cerrone. True or false? Entries to Cerrone, Nigel Thornton, Peterborough Telegraph, Unex House - Suite B, Bourges Boulevard, Peterborough, PE1 1NG by December 23.
