Slack jailed for eight years after undercover operation
A paedophile was brought to justice after being caught in an undercover sting operation. Nicholas Slack, 26, of Dundee Crest in Yaxley, was jailed for eight years afterhewasidentifiedasusingwebsites to share indecent images of children with other users as well as arranging with another adult to traveltoKenttosexuallyabuse three children.
Hewasarrested in December, and in interview, Slack initially denied any wrongdoing, however when he was advisedheneededtostarttelling the truth, he said what he had donewas‘shamefulanddidn’t want to admit it’.
He proceeded to tell officers how he’d set up an email account in February that year (2016) and that his sexual interest in children started when he was about 16, out of curiosity. He spoke about his preferenceforyounggirlsaged between eight and 10-yearsold and how he would speak to other men online about indecent imagesof children and sexual fantasies.
Two or three weeks prior to his arrest, Slack hadbeenin regular communication with a woman he believed would help give him access to children. Detectives learned how Slack had planned to visit the womanandherthreechildren in order to carry out sexual fantasies with them.
At court he pleaded guilty to attempting to arrange or facilitate the commission of a child sexoffence, threecounts of distributing indecentimages of children, andtwocounts of making indecent images of children.
I n s e ntencing, J udge Hawksworth said to Slack: “I have to consider dangerousness, I have come to the conclusionthatyouaredangerous andthereisanimmediaterisk and that this risk can only be properly addressed through an extended sentence.”
He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for life, andmadesubjectof a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Detective Sergeant James Weston, from the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), said: “Slack is a very dangerousindividual whohas anextremelyunhealthyinterest in children, particularly mid-pubescent girls.”
