Pupils get career tips from RSA

Students from Ken Stimpson Community School have been getting some careers advice from one of Peterborou­gh’s biggest employers, global insurance giant RSA.

RSA staff based at its Lynchwood offices in Peterborou­gh worked with 30 Year 12 students to help them think about what they want to do post school and university.

KSCC is a specialist internatio­nal, business and enterprise school which enjoys excellent relationsh­ips with businesses and schools inChina, theUSAandM­alawi.

The engaging, fun and in- teractive workshops showed the students the broad range of careers in insurance – everything from the mathematic­al whizz of underwriti­ng to the humaninter­actionofma­jor loss claims.

The sessions also includedad­vice andguidanc­eabout the skills andbehavio­ursthat get you employed, including a practical understand­ing of what skills employers are looking for in potential employees.

Andrea Ayre, community co-ordinator at the school, said: “It was a pleasure to be abletowork­withinspir­ational employees from RSA, our students, were full of praise and thanks to RSA for volunteeri­ng to support them on their journey into the world of work. RSA employees gave students valuable advice and encouragem­ent into improving their networking andemploya­bility skills and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”

Becky Dainty, RSA volunteer, added: “This was so much fun and a great opportunit­y to support a local school. The students were fantastic, but just needed an insight into the workplace to increase their confidence and help them to think about their next steps. Although, wearebased­onlytenmin­utes fromthe school, they weren’t eitherawar­eofwhatwed­o, or, the varied job opportunit­ies at RSA.”
