Swimming club to bag share of funds
Deepings Swimming Club is back on the fundraising trail! Fresh from raising £12,000 in a sponsored cross-channel swim for a new electronic timing board, the club is now looking to secure money for backstroke start devices in collaboration with the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Shoppers at Tesco stores including Dogsthorpe Express, Market Deeping, Peterborough Chadbrn Express, Stamford Express, Stamford Metro and Werrington can vote for one of three shortlisted local projects by putting the blue token in the box of their choice. The winning project takes away the top grant of £4,000. Deepings Swimming Club hopes to raise sufficient funds to purchase start devices for each of the pool’s six lanes.
Lynn Chapman, Deepings Swimming Club head coach, said: “These devices are now used in most major competitions and they will give our backstroke swimmers excellent experience ahead of their big races.”
