ALIEN HUNTER High Fliers, cert 15 DVD £7.99 THINGS have gone to pot in the California town of Willits. It’s to do with the hamlet’s booming agricultural crop – marijuana.

Word’s spread and the northern area of the state has been nicknamed the Emerald Triangle and become a magnet for hippies. Stoned or not, some of them don’t want to turn on and trip out peacefully and one of the local cops (Dolph Lundgren – pictured) is none too gentle in dealing with them. However, Willits has other problems. Pot farmer Brock (Bill Sage) claims he was kidnapped and tortured aboard an alien space ship. While it could be he’s been sampling his own crop too much, a series of disappearances of campers in the woods backs up his claims. When a group of young campers in search of dope turn up they ignore the locals’ warnings and pitch camp. That’s when Brock decrees that he’s had enough of the aliens and with wife Peggy (Sabina Gadecki) decides they are going to fight back. And through a marijuana fog Brock finds some horrible creatures hiding in the woods as events get shockingly gory. But, amidst the bloodbath there are darkly comic moments and Rory Culkin (Mac’s little brother) is particularly good as offbeat hitchhiker Possum. It’s a strange brew but splatter fans will love it.
