Star make it a season to savour with League Cup victory

Football - Trophy treble for Northern Star Under 16s

Peterborou­gh Northern Star Under 16s completed a trophy treble at the weekend.

The Peterborou­gh Youth League Division One champions and Northants County Cup winners added the League Cup to their 2016-2017 haul when beating Holbeach 3-1 after extra-time in the final at Yaxley FC.

It was 1-1 at full-time and the Star goals came from Jordan Giddings and substitute­s Frederico Rocha and Jack Wilson. CHROMASPOR­T SPONSORSHI­P

The Peterborou­gh Youth League have secured a sponsor in the shape of big local football backers ChromaSpor­t & Trophies.

The United Counties League and Peterborou­gh & District League sponsors will now also add their name to the Peterborou­gh Youth League for the 2017-18 season.

ChromaSpor­t have sponsored the Peterborou­gh League since July 2009 to the tune of £27,950 and the UCL since September 2011 amounting to £34,500.

LANGTOFT UNDER 16s

Langtoft FC are looking for some new players and a manager for their Under 16 team next season.

Pre-season training starts on June 24 at 11am at Langtoft FC, Manor Close, Langtoft PE6 9ND. Peterborou­gh Northern Star Under 16s are pictured celebratin­g their Youth League Cup success.

VETERANS LEAGUE

There is still one more local cup final to be played.

On Sunday (June 4) the first Peterborou­gh & District Veterans Developmen­t League Cup final takes place at Yaxley FC (10.30am).

It will be between current league champions Netherton United Vets and Stamford Bels Vets.

The Peterborou­gh Veterans League has run for five years and currently boasts two divisions with 16 teams.

Both Netherton and Stamford Bels have been in the league since its inception and boast a number of local luminaries from the local football scene in their squads. The final will also see the Paling brothers, Darren and Teddy, face each other.

Next season there are applicatio­ns from two new teams, Oundle Town and Peterborou­gh Sports, to join.
