By-election candidates
Labour and the Conservatives have announced their candidates for the Peterborough City Council by-election for Park ward.
Labour have chosen Shaz Nawaz, while the Tories have picked Arfan Khan.
The seat was vacated after the resignation of Labour’s John Shearman due to personal reasons. If the Conservatives win the seat on Thursday, August 17, the party will hold 30 of the 59 filled council seats, with a by-election in Eye, Thorney and Newborough yet to be called.
The current Park ward councillors are Cllr John Peach (Conservative) and Cllr Richard Ferris (Labour).
Mr Khan said: “Cllr Peach successfully campaigned for an extra £7.5 million to be spent in the Millfield area. I want to see that money is used well and to hear from local residents how they think it can be best spent.”
Mr Nawaz said: “John Shearman and Cllr Ferris inspired me to get involved in local politics. I have been working alongside them to help improve our ward. As a resident of the ward I am committed to continue the great work of John and Richard. ” †Rated highest for travel insurance customer experience–Mintel Report, February 2016. *Price is correct at the time of print based on one person aged 18 – 65 on a Basic policy travelling within 30 days of purchase, excluding medical conditions.
