FAMED for its dark chocolate and bitter monastery-brewed beer, Belgian enters the Nordic Noir fray with this tension-packed crime series which picked up an award at Cannes.

Shown here on Sky Atlantic, it follows the moody Scandi crime template. Trouble brews when Guy Beranger (Angelo Bison pictured), a child murderer is released on parole after 20 years and amazingly placed into the custody of the monks of Vielsort Abbey in the rugged Ardennes for the remainder of his sentence. Naturally, the residents of the nearby village are unhappy. Then, a young village girl disappears and all hell breaks loose. It’s a pressure cooker set to explode and to her disgust, police inspector Chloe Muller (Stephanie Blanchoud) is despatched from Brussels to protect Berenger. Chloe has problems of her own with a troubled past (which could be connected to the man she has to protect) and her bosses want her out of the way because she shot someone in the line of duty. She jumps out of the frying pan straight into the fire however when she finds a mob baying to take justice into their own hands, while the monks feel duty-bound to protect Berenger. Chloe finds an unlikely sidekick in young monk Lucas (Clement Manuel) who also wants to get the truth and restore order.
