The Young Carers Trust hosted a fantastic day out at Hinchingbrooke Park. Hundreds of young carers and their families were able to relax and have a lot of fun.

More than 300 people attended.

Cromwell Rotary was on hand to sponsor, and give practical assistance, with the bicycle part of the day.

Bikeability involved lots of adapted cycles, one of which takes a wheelchair!

Rotary paid for the hire of the cycles and manned the activity all day.

Eight Rotarians, ably assisted by local MP Jonathan Djanogly, helped fit people into the cycles.

A substantial sum was raised for the Young Carers Trust during the day. Supporting the development of young people in a totally different way, Deepings Rotary held their annual “Youth Speaks” Competition at The Goat in Frognall.

James Jessop, Luke Giddings, Bradley Harrison and Demi Wey, all Lower Sixth pupils, at The Deepings School, each gave a prepared talk to a panel of judges. An audience of around 30 Rotarians and members of Deepings Inner Wheel supported the event. Subjects were as diverse as “The importance of good manmanagement to the national speedway teams of Denmark and Poland”, “How Social Media can change your life”, “Learning the hard way, what is truly important in life”, and “Why a person’s personal image is so important”.

After a very close competition, the judges awarded runners-up prizes of £25 each to James, Luke and Bradley.

The Youth Speaks trophy and prize of £50 went to the winner, Demi. Presenting the prizes, Rotary President Alan Kendrick, said: “This was an impressive competition and such a pleasure to meet young people who are a credit to themselves and to their school.”

He congratulated both the students and their teacher Jo Dexter for all the work she did in preparing them for the evening.

Ramsey Rotary sponsored local lad Oliver Green for a week’s residential course at the Calvert Trust.

The Lake District Calvert Trust is a residential outdoor centre with 40 years’ experience delivering challenging outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities.

On the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, in the heart of the Lake District National Park, the centre offers a warm welcome and accessible accommodation.

Oliver, accompanied by his mum, visited the club and gave members an enthusiastic and amusing account of his activities and experiences while in the Lake District.
