IT isn’t obvious at first, but as horrific events play out in this nerve-wracking thriller, you realise it’s based on the real-life killings of pregnant Hollywood actress Sharon Tate and her friends by the deranged Charles Manson gang.
Manson’s rightly been rotting in an American prison ever since, but this is a gaspinducing reminder that his killing spree brought a jarring end to the Flower Power era of love, peace and rock music in 1969. The film from John R Leonetti of horror hit Anabelle fame, stars Katie Cassidy from TV’s Arrow series as Sharon who had arranged a sendoff for her best pal Abigail (Elizabeth Henstridge) a coffee empire heiress due to fly home to Boston next day. Little do they know they are only a hairsbreadth away from appalling violence with drugged-up monsters approaching the house. Abigail’s boyfriend Wojciech (Adam Campbell) and Sharon’s friend Jay (Miles Fisher) are the other targets for the three women and one man – all disciples despatched by Manson on his so-called ‘helter skelter’ mission of death – who are about to massacre the occupants of the rented mansion in the Hollywood hills. Knowing what’s going to happen doesn’t make the film less scary, far from it, it’s terrifying. But, have you got the stomach for it? Which film director was Sharon’s husband? Entries to Alex Gordon, Wolves competition by August 3.
