England glory for the roaring Tiger from Milton
Golf - Williams wins Nations Cup on international debut
Young Peterborough Milton Golf Club star Robin Tiger Williams finished third in the English Boys Under 16 Open Championship at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club in Somerset at the weekend.
The 15 year-old fired rounds of 68, 75, 74 and 71 to finish on 288 - two shots adrift of champion Joonas Juan Turba from Estonia and a shot behind Max Hopkins from Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club.
Williams was part of the England team that successfully defended the Nations Cup, which was decided over the first two rounds of the championship.
The former Hampton Hargate School pupil, who was making his England debut, was in the England A team alongside Conor Gough (Stoke Park) and Charlie Hilton (Ifield) which finished two over.
The England B team of Tom Gregory (Stoke Park), Dominic Clemons (Hanbury Manor) and Ben Pierleoni (Berkhamsted) were second on four over, one shot ahead of Spain.
EAST PGA
Thorpe Wood professional Stuart Brown finished third in the King’s Lynn Pro-Am on the East PGA cricuit.
He fired a two-under-par 70 to win £450.
Runaway winner with a scorching round of 66 was Heacham Manor’s Daniel Poulter, brother of Ryder Cup star Ian.
MARCH CAPTAIN’S DAY
A total of 77 players took part in Ivan Robert’s Captain’s Day competition at March Golf Club and helped raise £553 for MIND.
The men’s event was won by Simon Moore with 38 points with Lewis Hearn and Gary Neugebauer coming in next on 37 points.
Penny Gilbert, who is in sparkling form of late, won the ladies nine-hole event with 17 points just edging out Sarah Oldham on countback.
The past Captain’s prize was won by Chris Hodson
Captain Robert said: “Despite the poor weather we had a fabulous day, with some great golf and a lot of fun afterwards.
“We also raised a decent amount for our joint captains’ charity which is great news.”
