Market Deeping head into their massive Lincs Premier Division derby against Bourne on Saturday (Outgang Road, noon) in great spirits after a crucial win at relegation rivals Alford last weekend.

Deeping sneaked home by two wickets thanks mainly to an outstanding ton from skipper Dave Sargeant.

Sargeant appears to be relishing the responsibility of captaincy. This was his first century after four half centuries as he closes in on 500 league runs for the season.

“I’m more focused as I have more responsibility,” Sargeant stated. “I’m also batting higher up the order than in recents seasons.

“This was a big win for us as it puts another team between us and the relegation zone.”

Deeping are 16 points and three places above the drop zone, but third-placed Bourne will be the toughest of opponents this weekend.

They haven’t lost a Premier Division match since May 6 and they still have a great chance of the title even though their big game against second- placed Grantham last Saturday was washed out when interestingly poised.

Spalding will soon be at a point of no return at the bottom of the table.

They failed to collect a single poins from a quickfire 10-wicket defeat at Sleaford last weekend when they were skittled for just 93.

Spalding seconds fared even worse with the bat against opposition from the same club in the South Lincs Premier Division.

Spalding were shot out for a paltry 39, but did take two wickets before accepting their inevitable defeat.

Spalding’s senior side have another tricky game at home to Lincoln this Saturday.

Bourne have another big day on Sunday when travelling to Cuckney CC to compete in a Midlands heat of the National Club Twenty/20 competition.

Bourne, who are the Lincolnshire champions, take on the powerful West Indian Cavaliers side in their semi-final.

Peterborough Town beat the Cavaliers on their way to National Finals Day in 2014.

Their victims that day included former Pakistani Test player Saqlain Mustaq and former England Test player Usman Afzaal. Ex-Notts star Bilal Shafayat is their skipper.
