Barry Fry has been busy working his magic

-

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has worked his magic in shifting 10 unwanted players out of the ABAX Stadium door this summer.

The sales of Michael Bostwick and Harry Anderson to League Two side Lincoln City were completed at the end of last week, while Shaquile Coulthirst joined Barnet, also of League Two, yesterday after his contract at Posh was cancelled by mutual consent.

Lee Angol (Mansfield), Hayden White (Mansfield), Jerome Binnom-Williams (Chesterfield), Luke James (Forest Green), Michael Smith (Hearts), Brad Inman (Rochdale) and Tom Nichols (Bristol Rovers) have all joined new clubs after falling out of favour at Posh.

Fry, who was unavailable for comment, is now left with midfielders Adil Nabi and Jordan Nicholson as players Posh are keen to offload.

Nicholson has several nonleague suitors, but Nabi has attracted very little interest.

Star attacker Marcus Maddison is also on the transfer list after reaching the last year of his existing deal and there’s every chance he could depart before the start of the League One season.

Championship clubs Fulham and Birmingham City have both been linked with a move for Maddison.

Bostwick’s departure was not a shock, but his eventual destination was.

League One title favourites Blackburn had a bid accepted for the 28 year-old centreback, but the player was not interested in moving his family to the north.

Lincoln’s offer - an undisclosed bid for Bostwick and Anderson - was less than Blackburn’s ,but Posh accepted it in recognition of the player’s excellent service.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony explained: “This wasn’t a financial decision for our club transfer wise.

“Blackburn offered us more money for Michael than Lincoln did, but Michael is a family man and he didn’t want to move his family up there so he had no interest in talking to them.

“So when Michael intimated Lincoln was a move good for him and his family we allowed him to move on.”

MacAnthony also hinted he doesn’t expect Maddison to be at Posh by the time the League One opener against Plymouth arrives.

“Unlikely, but not impossible,” MacAnthony stated.
