Move along, nothing much to see or report on here

Whatever it was Posh boss Grant McCann got from this game, it wasn’t fluent passing football, shots on target or much entertainment.

The manager’s postmatch glow must have been gleaned from fitness levels of those on the pitch and the presence close by of new signing Steven Taylor, a transfer coup with the usual proviso regarding fitness.

My this was dull. Wolves benefitted more from the 21 half-time changes made between both sides to dominate the second period and deservedly won thanks to a goal on the breakaway converted from close range by Austin Samuels 20 minutes from time.

That the goal arrived direct from a Posh corner was a sense of mild irritation, especially as Posh attacks had been so rare for the previous 25 minutes or so.

Posh failed to score for the first time this summer, a natural consequence of failing to deliver a single shot on target. Heck, they didn’t manage more than a couple of shots at goal in 90 minutes, hence the wild excitement provided by Lewis Freestone’s 30 yard pop into the vacant London Road End towards the end.

Wolves were little better despite domination of possession. It was mistakes from Alex Penny and Freestone which led to Josh Tibbetts making two fine saves in the second-half. Otherwise Posh defended pretty well with the first-choice back three of Ryan Tafazolli, Jack Baldwin and Andrew Hughes suggesting to Taylor he won’t be an automatic pick when the serious stuff starts.
