Speak­ers and mu­si­cians launch Black His­tory Month in city

EVENT Saturday, Oc­to­ber 7 saw the city launch of Black His­tory Month, cel­e­brat­ing black cul­tures and his­to­ries. Peter­bor­ough MP Fiona Onasanya and mayor John Fox were present, as well as lo­cal rock band Tickin Boxes and for­mer X Fac­tor star Valen­tine. Traders served African and Caribbean cui­sine and tributes were paid to prom­i­nent lib­er­a­tion fig­ures such as Martin Luther King. The Black His­tory month com­mit­tee or­gan­ised the launch to cel­e­brate unity and com­mu­nity spirit. They hold meet­ings and work­shops each year be­tween April and Oc­to­ber.
