‘Faz’ was playing non-league football for Redditch United when Aston Villa signed him for £45k in 1992.
He played eight times for the Villa first team before joining Wycombe Wanderers for £100,000 in 1995.
Barry Fry signed ‘Faz’ on a free transfer in the summer of 1997. He made his debut in the opening game of the 1997-98 season when Posh lost 1-0 at home to Scunthorpe in Division Three.
‘Faz’ scored his first Posh goal in a 2-1 win at Portsmouth in a Football League Cup tie later that same month.
The flying winger went on to make 388 Posh appearances - the fourth highest total after Tommy Robson, Mark Tyler and Jack Carmichael in the club’s Football League era.
‘Faz’ scored 52 first-team goals - 42 in the Football League, three in the FA Cup, two in the Football League Cup and five in other competitions, including a hat-trick in that play-off semifinal at home to Barnet.
He’s the most used substitute in Posh history with 75 appearances from the bench, 10 more than Andy Clarke, 11 more than Francis Green and 12 more than Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.
After Posh Faz played nonleague football for Boston United, Burton Albion and Stamford.
‘Faz’ realised one ambition by playing in the same side as son Jake, a one-time Posh Academy student. They played in the Peterborough & District League together for Spalding United Reserves.
