The future of Peterborough Panthers has been thrown into doubt again.

Owner Ged Rathbone (above) has been hit by what he believes is the biggest fine ever issued in British speedway.

The Speedway Control Bureau (SCB) have penalised Rathbone the amount of money he received from Polish giants Torun when allowing star rider Jack Holder to miss three Panthers meetings during August to race for them.

Neither Rathbone nor the SCB have revealed the exact fee involved, but it was called a ‘hefty fivefigure’ fine in a Panthers statement - a statement which also said the club’s future had been ‘thrown into serious jeopardy’.

Rathbone has remained tight-lipped on the matter, but confirmed he has submitted an appeal to the Auto Cycle Union.

And Rathbone has urged fans to forget about off-track troubles as the club approach home meetings on Friday and Sunday. More on Panthers:
