Accountants agree new partnership
Company rejected pleas from several firms before accepting deal
Partners at a leading firm of accountants in Peterborough shunned approaches from a number of rivals before opting to join the rapidly growing Baldwins Group.
The struggle to acquire Rawlinsons, which employs 70 people in Peterborough and Cambridge, was revealed by managing partner Colin Crowley.
He was speaking after the official announcement that Rawlinsons, of Lincoln Road, had joined Baldwins, which is part of the Cogital Group company that has 4,700 people operating from 150 offices in seven countries and with a revenue of £320 million plus.
Mr Crowley, managing partner at Rawlinsons, said the firm had previously rejected approaches from other accountancy firms before deciding to join Baldwins.
He added: “We have landed a unique opportunity here with Baldwins that will enable Rawlinsons to nurture the development of local businesses.
“We will now have access to our own corporate finance team, restructuring and and tax specialists, which comes at a useful time when a lot of owner managers need to understand what they need to do to conform to the new Making Tax Digital guidelines.”
While Rawlinsons will continue to trade under its current name for the foreseeable future, it will also be branded as ‘part of the Baldwins Group’.
John Baldwin, chief executive of Baldwins, said: “We’re excited to be entering into another new part of the country with an accountancy practice such as Rawlinsons that has built up a reputable reputation over the years. This is just the start for Baldwins in the East of England.”
