Deeping lose ground despite a late leveller

-

The weather played havoc with the United Counties League last weekend with every scheduled Easter Monday game postponed.

There wasn’t a lot of action on Saturday either, although Deeping Rangers lost ground in the Premier Division title race by failing to beat in-form Cogenhoe United at the Haydon Whitham Stadium.

The visitors had won their eight previous matches and led 2-1 going into the final two minutes before Scott Coupland grabbed a late equaliser.

Scott Mooney had fired Deeping ahead in the firsthalf, but they are now 10 points behind leaders Yaxley with three games in hand.

And Holbeach United moved above Deeping into fourth place by winning 4-0 at St Andrews thanks mianly to Will Bird’s hat-trick.

The top three Yaxley, Wisbech and Newport Pagnell all suffered blank weekends leaving Yaxley six points clear ahead of Saturday’s home match with mid-table Desborough Town.

Wisbech have three games in hand on the Cuckoos, but it’s their turn to host Cogenhoe. Pagnell have a tricky home game against improving Boston Town.

Deeping are at home to Wellingborough Town on Saturday before travelling to Eynesbury next Tuesday (April 10). Holbeach have home games against strugglers Oadby (Saturday) and Sileby on Wednesday.

Division One champions -elect Pinchbeck United travel to lowly Burton Park Wanderers on Saturday.

Pinchbeck need eight points from seven matches to seal top spot in their first season as a UCL club.
