POSH ARE PLANNING TO HALT PILGRIMS’ PROGRESS
Peterborough United will use local derby joy as a springboard for sealing a League One play-off place.
Posh continued their dominance of Northampton Town with a 2-0 win over their fiercest rivals at the ABAX Stadium on Easter Monday. The result cost Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink his job.
It completed a four-point Easter weekend which was enough to push Posh up to fifth place - their highest position since the end of September.
But the going gets a lot tougher now, starting with a trip to bang in-form play-off rivals Plymouth on Saturday.
“The rest of our games are all a lot harder than playing Northampton,” Evans admitted. “But you should never under-estimate the boost a derby win in front of a big crowd gives a team.
“It’s set us up nicely for a very tough run-in. It was an easy win which didn’t take a lot out of us and now we are back in the play-off places we are determined to stay there.
“Playing Plymouth away is as hard as it can get right now. What manager Derek Adams has achieved is astonishing as I bet there were many people calling for his head when they started slowly.
“But we will go there with plenty of confidence. We have the ability to win and when we don’t play well we are showing great character.”
Central defender Ryan Tafazolli’s hamstring problem continues to be monitored.
Evans insists on-loan striker Omar Bogle remains in his plans even though he has been absent from the last two matchday squads. Evans says the player is not fully fit.
