A man was left in a serious condition after suffering a cardiac arrest at the wheel on a Peterborough parkway.

The man was driving along the Frank Perkins Parkway at Boongate when he suffered the medical incident on Thursday.

The road was closed between Boongate and Eastfield Road in both directions from 9am to 11am to allow the Magpas air ambulance to land to provide vital first aid. A sheet was put up around the medics to allow them to work safely and in private.

A police spokeswoman said they were called at 9.10am to reports of a single vehicle collision and that the driver had gone into cardiac arrest, but was now making progress. The police were unable to provide any more updates about the man’s condition. A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a man had suffered a cardiac arrest.
