The Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Don’t get steamed up!
The website being used to book tickets for the forthcoming visit of the iconic Flying Scotsman to Nene Valley Railway crashed this week under the weight of demand. That led to much consternation from those keen to book a journey and understandably so. But some of the complaints and comments about the issue overstepped the mark. We shouldn’t forget that NVR is run by a dedicated band of volunteers. Many far bigger and better funded organisations have technical issues like the ones that hit this week. The NVR volunteers’ hard work and fundraising over the years has created a superb local attraction. They give many hours of their own time and arranging events like the visit of the Scotsman are all to the benefit of the heritage railway and the area as a whole. They deserve huge credit and some sympathy when technology lets them down. The benefit they bring to Peterborough is huge.
